Course description

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid (formally known as Apply First Aid / Senior First Aid) is a workplace level 2 first aid course which provides participants with the knowledge and skill to confidently recognise and ability to safely respond to an injured or ill casualty in and emergency situation. The course is suitable for the general public, students and corporate clients. Gain confidence to provide first aid response, life support, the management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, until emergency services arrives. This is the advised minimum requirement by Workplace Health & Safety Legislation for a workplace first aider in the workplace.
On completion of this course you qualify as a Workplace First Aider. The Statement of Attainment is recognised throughout Australia.

Course duration

 Flexible Learning:

  • Self-paced completion of theory study with a workbook prior to face to face workshop
  • Face to face workshop, one day

Course content: The management of;

  • The unconscious casualty
  • The non-breathing casualty (including CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator on adults & children)
  • A casualty with breathing difficulties
  • Casualty Assessment
  • First aid team work and multiple casualties, Triage
  • Emergency Action Plan

  • Phoning the Ambulance
  • Abdominal Injuries
  • Allergic Reaction and Anaphylaxis Awareness, Asthma
  • Bandages & Slings, Bites and Stings, Bleeding, Burns
  • Cardiac Arrest, CPR & Defibrillation
  • Childhood Illnesses, Chest Injuries, Choking, Crush Injuries
  • Diabetes, Drowning, Drug Overdose
  • Electric Shock, Eye Injures
  • Faint, Fractures
  • Head Injuries, Heart Problems
  • Hyperthermia, Hypothermia
  • Motor Vehicle Accidents
  • Panic Attacks, Poisoning
  • Seizures, Febrile Seizures
  • Shock, Spinal Injuries
  • Strains & Sprains, Stroke
  • Record Keeping, Stress Management


Minimum age for participants is 14 years. Completion of the theory workbook or pre-reading is required prior to the face to face session and evidence given to the trainer. It is a requirement of this course that you are physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 minutes on a manikin placed on the floor.

Certificate validity

Certificate valid for 3 years as per industry standard. The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends the CPR component is refreshed every 12 months.


A combination of multiple choice questions and engaging scenario based assessments.
