CHC30408 Certificate III in Disability

Course description

This qualification addresses work in the community and/or residential facilities under direct or regular supervision within clearly defined organisation guidelines and service plans.

These workers:

  • Carry out activities to maintain personal care and/or other activities of living for people with a disability
  • Carry out activities related to an individualised plan
  • Report directly to a supervisor and are not responsible for other workers.

Course duration:

Blended learning:

Students will have 3 blocks of supported face to face workshops and 1 week blocks of practical placement, the course duration is 9 weeks in total.

Package:

Successful completion of this course will require the completion of 14 units, this comprises of 9 core units and 5 electives. A large number of elective units are available enabling students to select elective units relevant to their field of interest.

  • Group A WHS electives one unit must be selected for disability work
  • CHCWHS312A Follow safety procedures for direct care work

Group B electives – recommended for culturally aware and respectful practice

  • HLTHIR403C Work effectively with culturally diverse clients and co-workers
  • HLTHIR404D Work effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people

Group C elective for special consideration

  • CHCOHC402A Support and encourage clients and groups to learn practical aspects of oral health care
  • CHCOHC404A Recognise and respond to signs and symptoms that may indicate oral health issues
  • CHCOHC406B Provide or assist with oral hygiene

 

Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age for participants is 16 years with basic spoken English, current police check and a blue card
  • Certificate validity

 

Certificate remains current indefinitely as long as you:

are currently working in the disability sector and maintain a current first aid certificate (full course every 3 years and CPR annually)

 

Assessment:

A combination of workbook, scenario assessment, logbook, observation and classroom discussion.

Funding is available. Taylormade First Aid Solutions Training Australia will help students to access funding, where applicable, through Certificate 3 Guarantee government funding
